Kids in Danger (KID), is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting children by improving children's product safety. It was founded
in 1998 by the parents of Danny Keysar after he was killed in an unsafe portable crib in his licensed childcare facility. KID’s mission is to promote
the development of safer children’s products, advocate for children and educate the public about dangerous products.
The annual Best Friend Award Night supports our lifesaving work. This event serves
as an opportunity to honor the recipient of the Best Friend Award, given to a champion of children's product safety; commemorate
the work of Kids in Danger; and honor the memory of Danny Keysar and other victims of unsafe children's products.
Kids In Danger is proud to honor Dr. Gary Smith with the 2010 Best Friend Award
for his leadership in the field of childhood injury prevention. Over the course of his 25-year career, Dr. Smith founded the
Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and has published over 100
injury-related articles in peer-reviewed journals.
